Since our founding, The Sharing Community has provided food to people in need. Our menus are carefully prepared and supervised by a nutritionist.
The following food related services are available:
Our Soup Kitchen, located at 1 Hudson Street, serves lunch at 12:30 pm Tuesday – Saturday. Anyone who is hungry can come in and enjoy a nutritious meal!
We also provide meals to the residents of our transitional housing facilities, and our men’s shelter at 1 Hudson Street, in addition to meals that are provided to clients of our homeless outreach efforts. These meals (more than 200 each day) are provided 365 days per year.
Each year we provide a special Thanksgiving and Christmas Community meal for more than 500 homeless and hungry guests. Along with “all the holiday trimmings” we also provide entertainment and a friendly place to help provide a sense of family on these special days.
Our days have been reduced due to lack of funding and severe budget cuts. For more than two decades, despite blizzards, hurricanes, etc. – we’ve never missed a single feeding! In 2016, we served nearly 80,491 nutritious meals, which are over 7,458 meals each month. For most of the past decade, we served about 200 guests each day. Since the economic downturn that began in 2008, our numbers have jumped but the amount of food we can serve has been dramatically reduced!
